Iranian cultural delegation visits Hiroshima

TEHRAN – A delegation of Iranian cineastes, authors, and war veterans arrived in Hiroshima on Thursday to attend the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, which is annually held on August 6 to commemorate the anniversary of tragedy of the U.S. atomic attack on the Japanese city.


The delegation was composed of filmmakers Mohammad-Ali Talebi, Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Mohammad-Ali Bashe Ahangar, and Seyyed Reza Mirkarimi, and authors Golali Babai and Habib Ahmadzadeh, and some Iranian soldiers wounded by Iraqi chemical weapons during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

The group held several meetings to exchange views with local officials, academics and students, as well as peace activists from around the world.

A Japanese version of “Travelogue as Narrated by Coughs”, Hamid Hesam’s book on Iranian soldiers wounded by Iraqi chemical weapons during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, was also unveiled during a ceremony on the small island of Okunoshima.

The delegation also attended the 2nd Iran Peace and Friendship Film Festival, which was held in Hiroshima.

A number of Iranian movies about the Iran-Iraq war were screened at the festival.

The lineup included “Gilaneh” directed by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, “Wind and Fog” by Mohammad-Ali Talebi, “A Cube of Sugar” by Reza Mirkarimki and “The Earth Child” by Mohammad-Ali Basheh Ahangar.
